Edin Džeko (Roma)Ben Gladwell, Stadio Olimpico: Roma's Champions League hopes were dangling by a thread until that late penalty instead left Leverkusen needing to play catch-up in the final two games in a group which is going to go down to the wire.
See past Milan finals With the road to the 2016 UEFA Champions League final in Milan under way, watch highlights of the three previous European Cup finals to have taken place in the Italian city.
Javier Hernández (Leverkusen)In three months with Leverkusen, Javier Hernández has scored more goals in all competitions than he did in all of last season with Real Madrid.
Kevin Kampl (Leverkusen)Kevin Kampl, Leverkusen midfielder: We told ourselves [at half-time] that we don't want to hang our heads. At the end of the first half we already saw that we could get chances. We've come back enough times this season already, most prominently of course in the first leg.
Edin Džeko (Roma)Roma forward Edin Džeko celebrates his first UEFA Champions League goal of the season, which came in the 29th minute to give Roma a two-goal lead.
There are a whole host of UEFA Champions League statistics available in the dedicated section on UEFA.com. Statistics
Bernd Leno, Leverkusen keeper: Of course it's annoying, but the fact that we came back shows that the team has a good mentality. We had to attack, but we left them too much room and they really took advantage of the fast players they have in attack. We waited too long and were too afraid. In the end we were lucky it was only 2-0 at half-time.
Miralem Pjanić (Roma)Miralem Pjanić, Roma midfielder: We should have closed the game in the first half, we had many chances on the counter, but the three points are the most important thing for us tonight. We had to win, and we did it. We are not qualified yet, there's still some work to do, but we are better placed than Leverkusen after this win and it's a postive note.
In other Group E news, Barcelona defeated BATE 3-0 to take a five-point lead over second-place Roma. Leverkusen sit in third with four points, six behind the group leaders.
Javier Hernández (Leverkusen)Leverkusen have lost five of their last nine matches in Italy, including a 1-0 loss to Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League play-off in August.
