Mayoral speechless at Spain success

A European champion and the finals' top scorer, Spain's Borja Mayoral told UEFA.com he was "at a loss for words, I'm very happy and proud" after lifting the trophy.

Having finished as top scorer in a UEFA European Under-19 Championship he helped Spain win, Real Madrid forward Borja Mayoral – whose third goal of the tournament set La Riojita on their way to a final victory against Russia – had plenty to be grateful for after his time in Greece. He spoke to UEFA.com about his finals experience.

Mayoral on... his emotions at lifting the trophy
I am very happy and proud. To be honest, I'm at a loss for words. This is a magnificent squad. Ever since our first day at training, we were very excited to participate in the tournament. And here is our reward. We are European champions.

Mayoral on... the significance of the 3-1 loss to Russia on matchday two
In the group match against Russia, we made several errors and they were better than us in terms of their physical condition. That result hurt us, it made us want to prove ourselves. We did that tonight, after playing a great game at the highest level, and we are deserved winners.

Mayoral on... how Spain stayed calm despite dominating the first half without scoring
In the first half we were playing great and the only thing missing was the goal. However, despite our many chances, we didn't get desperate. We knew it would come as we kept on creating chances.

Mayoral on... the tournament
We competed at a high level from day one. Ever since our opening match against Germany, we never hid the fact that we wanted to win this championship. Our wishes came true, through incredible hard work in a very tough group. We defeated great teams and our last goal was to take revenge on Russia. We made it.

Mayoral on... what he will do with his top scorers' trophy
I don't know where I'll keep it, but I hope it's the first of many. I have only words of gratitude for all my team-mates. For their attitude and their reading of the game, passing me the ball and setting me up to score.
